Dong Quai is an excellent alternative to prednisone being prescribed for pain control. Dong Quai offers natural anti-inflammatory properties as well as immunological boosting attributes. This herb also offers antispasmodic properties, and can be used for the treatment of pain in the abdominal region, arthritic conditions and for the treatment of headaches. Dong Quai can be safely consumed on a daily basis: the herb can be consumed at a dosage of two to four 530 mg capsules every day. Capsules should be consumed with a meal for ease of digestion, and pregnant and/or breast-feeding women should refrain from using the product. Dong Quai is sold in some drug stores, in health stores, and it is available online.
My aunt was prescribed prednisone for asthma when she was admitted to hospital. After 3 days, she started talking with a grandiose air and making extravagant purchases and plans. She started writing a book and was going to direct a play that was to take place in a neighbouring bandshell. She wrote day and night and called people at inappropriate times. She was forced off the drugs. She had no idea anything was wrong with her. The behaviour continued for 2 months after the prednisone was stopped, and then she had a huge melt down and completely lost her mind. An ambulance was called, and she was hospitalized for a day and surprisingly released. She was quiet for 6 months, but for the past year and a half has been condescending, aggressive, intense, no empathy, grandiose, queenly, opinionated, interrupts others, and has become punishing and mean. She has no filter, and can’t tell if what she is saying is hurting or offending people. She still continues to work part-time in a retail store and hasn’t been fired.
As a glucocorticoid , the lipophilic structure of prednisolone allows for easy passage through the cell membrane where it then binds to its respective glucocorticoid receptor (GCR) located in the cytoplasm. Upon binding, formation of the GC/GCR complex causes dissociation of chaperone proteins from the glucocorticoid receptor enabling the GC/GCR complex to translocate inside the nucleus. This process occurs within 20 minutes of binding. Once inside the nucleus, the homodimer GC/GCR complex binds to specific DNA binding-sites known as glucocorticoid response elements (GREs) resulting in gene expression or inhibition. Complex binding to positive GREs leads to synthesis of anti-inflammatory proteins while binding to negative GREs block the transcription of inflammatory genes.
